Stability of ranitidine and piperacillin at simulated Y-site administration

Abstract
The stability of piperacillin sodium and ranitidine hydrochloride was studied under same conditions via Y-site injection into a primary infusion line. Renitidine hydrochloride injection was diluted with 50ml 0.9% NaCl injection to give premixing concentrations of ranitidine 1§·/§¢ piperacilline sodium was reconstituted with both 0.9% NaCl to produce premixing concentrations of piperacillin 10~20§·/§¢. To simulate Y-site administration, 2§¢ of piperacilline was mixed with 2§¢ of ranitidine in a 10§¢ glass test tube. Samples of these admixtures were inspected for visual changes and tested for pH. In the admixtures was influenced by concentrations of the two drugs. In the admixtures, the concentrations of two drugs varied by less than 10% throughout the study period.
